We are currently supporting Ultra Maritime in the search for a Manufacturing Engineer to join their growing engineering and operations function.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly respected defence engineering organisation working on complex, technically advanced products within a regulated manufacturing environment. The role sits at the centre of engineering, operations, quality and supply chain, supporting both new product introduction and ongoing manufacturing improvement activities.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring products are designed and introduced into production in the most efficient, cost-effective and manufacturable way possible, while also supporting yield improvement, quality enhancement and continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities from prototype through to full production release
- Drive Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) activities alongside engineering and test teams
- Develop manufacturing routings, processes, work instructions and supporting production documentation
- Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and lead root cause investigations using RCCA and 8D methodologies
- Support yield improvement, defect reduction and manufacturing efficiency initiatives
- Collaborate with engineering teams to identify and implement product design improvements
- Support outsourcing strategies, make vs buy decisions and CapEx activities
- Work closely with production, quality, programmes and supply chain teams to ensure products are delivered on time, on quality and on budget
- Support prototype builds and early production activities
- Identify opportunities for automation, process optimisation and cost reduction
- Generate bid estimates and manufacturing work packages where required
- Ensure manufacturing processes proactively address product safety and quality requirements
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience within a Manufacturing Engineer, Production Engineer or Industrialisation Engineer role
- Experience working within complex engineering, aerospace, defence or highly regulated manufacturing environments
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, DFM principles and production engineering
- Experience supporting NPI and product industrialisation activities
- Proven problem-solving and root cause analysis capability
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, operations and supply chain teams
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies
- Lean Six Sigma certification would be advantageous
Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience considered)
