Job Description

This contract role focuses on avionics installation and maintenance on Dash 8 Q400 aircraft, combining hands-on aircraft installation work with bench work. You will install and repair wiring, interpret wiring diagrams, and work on avionics systems across the airframe, cockpit, and underfloor areas. The position requires an experienced avionics professional who can contribute immediately with minimal training and support ongoing line maintenance, installations, and conversions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform avionics installation work on Dash 8 Q400 aircraft, including airframe, cockpit, and underfloor areas.
  • Install, route, and secure wiring and wire harnesses in accordance with engineering drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Interpret and work from wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and engineering documentation to complete installations and repairs.
  • Conduct bench work on avionics systems and components, including inspection, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Support line maintenance activities, including diagnosing and resolving electrical and avionics issues on in-service aircraft.
  • Carry out installation, repair, and modification tasks on avionics systems and electrical systems as required.
  • Assist with aircraft conversions and configuration changes involving avionics and electrical installations.
  • Collaborate with the team lead or lead hand and a team of 5–6 technicians to ensure aircraft are functioning safely and efficiently.
  • Work efficiently with minimal supervision, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Follow all applicable maintenance procedures, safety standards, and quality requirements while working on aircraft systems.
  • Use basic personal tooling and provided specialized tooling (such as crimping tools) to complete daily tasks.
  • Document work performed in accordance with company and regulatory requirements, where applicable.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in avionics or aircraft maintenance.
  • Experience performing avionics installation work on aircraft.
  • Line maintenance experience on aircraft, including troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Hands-on experience with installation work on aircraft electrical and avionics systems.
  • Ability to interpret and work from wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
  • Experience with aircraft maintenance, including electrical and avionics repair.
  • Capability to work with minimal training and become productive immediately.
  • Licensed or unlicensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) with at least 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of avionics systems and aircraft electrical systems.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude and professional approach to work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working on Dash 8 Q400 aircraft.
  • Experience working on RJ85 aircraft.
  • Experience working on Air Tractor aircraft.
  • AME license is an asset.
  • ACA endorsement on Q400 is an asset.
  • Previous experience in a mixed bench and on-aircraft avionics role is an advantage.

Work Environment

You work as part of a team of approximately 5–6 people, collaborating closely with a team lead or lead hand to return aircraft to service safely and efficiently. The role involves a mix of on-aircraft work in hangars and underfloor areas, as well as bench work on avionics components, using both your own basic tools and specialized tooling provided on site (such as crimping tools). The standard shift is Monday to Friday, 10-hour days from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional overtime available on Saturdays. The environment provides exposure to multiple aircraft types, with a strong focus on Dash 8 Q400 operations. Travel and assignment logistics are well organized, with accommodation, per diem, mileage reimbursement up to a defined distance, and flight reimbursement for out-of-province contractors, including coverage of baggage costs for personal belongings and tools up to an equivalent of 1,000 km of travel at the applicable rate.
